Well, wonder no more. The answer is…in trees.
A place for my photos and thoughts and stuff.
Well, wonder no more. The answer is…in trees.
The balsam was beautiful this year.
Sunflowers…
Black-eyed susan vine, as usual…
Moonflower, a night-bloomer, and a descendent of the seeds our old neighbor George gave us decades ago.
Another sunflower…
And the cutest sunflower, the teddy bear variety.
AKA, Four o’ Clocks (because that’s when they bloom), bringers of color and happiness at the dreary, hot end of summer.
Daisies…
…zinnias…
…honeysuckle…
…bottlebrush…
…nasturtiums…
…borage…
…roses…
…dahlias…
…and gladiolas!
And yes, my allergies were awful. It was worth it.
They come in many colors, but this one is my favorite.
This display was not as abundant this year.
We re-organized the flower bed, so had to dig up the bulbs and move them around.
They weren’t terribly happy about it.
But they’ll get back into the swing of things next year.
They were still beautiful to look at.
The lilies are ready to blow!
The best part is growing them yourself.
There’s one yard that always has a really nice wildflower display.
They even had these red poppies, which are pretty unusual.
Neighborhood watch. He never blinks!
Calling card.
…with a couple of perfect Kentucky Derby roses! They weren’t omens or anything, because in spite of my month of studying, my handicapping most definitely did not come up smelling like a rose.
The key, we have learned, is showing up before it actually starts. The early bird makes off with the goods.
