Was supposed to be a day of big, wild surf, but I missed it. People were actually in the water. Which was dumb, because there were some pretty bad rip tides.

…that far-off patch of sunshine…
A place for my photos and thoughts and stuff.

Was supposed to be a day of big, wild surf, but I missed it. People were actually in the water. Which was dumb, because there were some pretty bad rip tides.

…that far-off patch of sunshine…

Become ungovernable.

The only snowflake in sight.

These two know each other. The pelican is begging. The fisherman obliged.

Here he is, with a tad more dignity. This is a brown pelican with his breeding plumage.

Saddleback, looking good.

#1 winter sport with the locals.

The beach has been “restored”…

…so the sea no longer makes a gentle run-up to the shore. You go out there, and the breakers are right on you!

The view of the surfing is good though.

…for the win!

In my book, this is the greatest chimney ever.

Not the crowds one would expect on a nice August day.

No one off in this direction either.

Lifeguard towers.

Mystery guests.

Yikes.

Waiting for the perfect wave. That would be in Hawaii. They’ve got quite a lot of paddling ahead of them.

Cowabunga!

…until I remember that time that I saw an older gent getting his sail ready, and a gust of wind came up, and dragged him on his face across the beach and through the shallows.
I laughed until my sides hurt. Good times!

It won’t be this empty for long…

It was the coldest water I’ve ever experienced. My feet felt like they were plunged into a snowbank. And yes, I see those children playing in the water, and I am fully prepared to accept the fact that I’m a wimp.

Meanwhile, in nature…

…the Circle of Life, in the form of shore birds eating something gross and crawly, continues.

Weirdly claustrophobic.
